Anushka Sharma – Best Newcomer 2008

Sunday, 21 December 2008

Well the lady is more than famous today and if you have seen the movie ‘Rab ne bana di jodi’ you will agree with me in saying that she is one of strongest contenders for the Best Debutante of the year award.

Good looks. good height, a great body, amazing onscreen presence, and of course flawless performance are all perfect ingredients for a newcomer, that she is. Just like Deepika Padiukone had taken all and sundry by storm with her performance in Om Shanti Om, Anushka follows suit.

I do not recall even a single shot from the movie where I felt for once – there is the newcomer… This model-turned actress has put all those beliefs to rest that models are not good actresses.

I sincerely hope that Anushka makes good career choices. Apparently, she is acting in three films under the Yash Raj banner.

Way to go lady… We hope to see some more good performances from you.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi! Kis Hadh tak...

Saturday, 20 December 2008

We actually got tired with the movie.. painfully long.. It could have been shorter.. I am in two minds as I am writing the review.. Honestly if you ask me I kind of liked the movie (if I speak like a hard core Shahrukh fan) and if I am asked to write a review, I would say it was just okay.

We all laughed (audience in the hall including me) at many instances in the movie, there were emotional moments also, yet I felt that the zing thing was missing..

I guess the story was too good to believe… The fact that the lady gets married to hero and yet does not recognize him because he gets a makeover.. now that does not seem too real.. in a normal scenario we try and find resemblance between Katrina and Zarine and here were are unable to identify the same man..

We see that the lady is falling for the new avatar of her very own husband, but suddenly falls truly, deeply, madly in love with the old one.. strong enough to sacrifice her love for a much older and boring husband.. and coincidences my God!

Heroine dances, so the hero reaches to dance, heroine gets number 21 and her jodidaar is her very own pati! An ordinary Punjab Power House executive could actually afford expensive ways to lure his lady love :)

When I recall the movie, I feel, the songs were not very good.. The one I liked the most was – Tujhme Rab Dikhta Hai.. especially the Shreya Ghoshal version. I found it emotional and it reached my heart.. though the choice of male singer could have been better. Haule haule was just okay and other songs did not meet my expectations.. Very mediocre unlike the Chopras and Salim-Suleiman types! One thing, Kajol and Rani Mukherji look amazing in the Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte medley.

The choreography completely disappointed me..  Since this movie is based on a Dance show, I had expected the dances to be exceptionally good. Normally, they are if it is a Shahrukh movie.

As far as individual performances are concerned they were all good. I really liked Anushka. No one can say that this is the first time she has acted and she does look pretty and taller that Shahrukh, but who cares! Vinay Pathak as usual is also very good.

Overall, a good one-time watch!

Ghajini Drives Amir Nuts

At least I think so.

He seems to have completely lost it..

Yesterday evening we decided to go for a movie.. an on the spot plan and Adlabs being the nearest at that moment, we opted for it..

While we were climbing the stairs, we saw a mannequin, on a closer look we saw an exact replica of Aamir Khan’s character in Ghajini. I should have clicked a picture to give the exact look. A few days back I had read in the newspaper that Aamir or the producers of Ghajini gave free Ghajini-hair style cuts to the waiters, ticket-sellers, and ushers (1500 to be precise) in the multiplexes across the country where ‘Rab ne Bana di Jodi’ was being screened.

I honestly wonder what has come over him.. Is attitude and fame getting into his head? But why now? When he is already a proclaimed actor, director, and a successful producer as well! I like his acting and until sometime back I used to respect him.. But his actions are getting on to my nerves. Sometimes he names his dog as Shahrukh then laughs it away.. at others he declares that Shahrukh is afraid to work with him..

C’mon dude.. you both have your own place in Bollywood and it will always be.. Let the janta decide and stop behaving like kids…

I would honestly like Aamir to get his act together and behave in a more matured manner for his age and position in the industry…

Kareena Kapoor say 'No' to size zero

Thursday, 18 December 2008

Apparently, Kareena Kapoor fainted on sets of Rensil D'Silva's film and most probably this was because of internal weakness. So now, Kareena baby has decided NOT too remain a size zero any longer.

It is reported that Kareena had reduced to 48kgs. In her own word ,"I weigh 54 kg now, which for a girl of my height is quite fine. People used to wonder what 'size zero' is and I'd joke, 'Just look at me'. I don't want that any more. I want to look like a normal healthy girl. My forthcoming releases required me to get back to a fuller shape."

Kareena has sported size zero in Tashan and Golmaal Returns earlier, but now she says - "In Kambakht Ishq, my character flies to Italy to become a supermodel to support herself financially. I didn't want to play the character looking like an international model because she's basically in another profession. So she can't really have the figure of Victoria Beckham, can she? I had to look more filled up".

We welcome her new avatar and hope that her beloved Saif will be more than happy to have a fuller lady in his life ;) what say?

Shakti Kapoor at it! Yet Again!

Shakti Kapoor, Bollywood's bad man has gotten in to the habit of staying in the limelight for all the bad reasons. And this time he has been accused of misbehaving with Rekha Thapa, a Nepali Actress.

Shakti, about 3 years ago created an uproar with a TV channel for airing his comments about how aspiring actresses had slept with him to boost their career.

A Nepali tabloid - Naya Patrika Daily, reported on the front page - "Indian actor Shakti Kapoor has shown his nature by misbehaving with Nepali actress Rekha Thapa".

It has been reported that while shooting for a Bhojpuri film, Hum Hai Hero Hindustani in Birgunj town in south Nepal, the 52-year-old actor, famous for his portrayal of a plotting, lascivious villain, had used derogatory words about the heroine Thapa and also tried to grab her hand.

Another co-start Shahbaz Khan, tried to intervene.

When Rekha warned that she would walk out of the movie, Shakti tendered an apology. Good move Shakti, learn to treat women with respect and you will see the difference! Let the Bollywood character not get in to you as a person..

Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!

The song is a Punjabi bhangra number, the original Punjabi lyrics and music have been retained. The song comes in the voice of Mika Singh and it is written by Dibakar Banerjee. The song is full of energy and tends to linger on your mind and your lips a bit longer - all attributed to the music and lyrics. :)

Movie Review - Sorry Bhai

Sunday, 7 December 2008

Movie: Sorry Bhai
Casting:
- Sharman Joshi (Siddartha)
- Chitrangada Singh (Aliya)
- Sanjay Suri (Harsh)
- Boman Irani (Mr. Mathur)
- Shabana Azmi (Mom - Gayatri)

Release Date: 28-Nov-2008
Directed by: Onir
Produced by: Vashu Bhagnani, Onir
My Rating: 2.5 on a scale of 5

Story: Sorry Bhai is the story of two brothers – Harsh (Sanjay Suri) and Siddharth (Sharman Joshi) and the common love of their lives - Aliya (Chitrangada Singh). Harsh is a businessman in Mauritius, who is devoted to work while Siddharth is a shy, scientist who hopes to prove his theory to the world, and who also happens to be a mamma's boy.

Well the story goes like this - Harsh informs his parents (Shabana Azmi and Boman Irani) about his plans of getting married to his lady love - Aliya (Chitrangda Singh) in a month's time. ,He requests them to come to Mauritius for the wedding and urges Siddharth to convice their mother to come. Mommy dear is very upset and refuses to go, but finally agrees after a lot of convincing by Siddharth.

On reaching Mauritius, Siddharth and father-in-law bonds well with Aliya , but mommy dear showers all her sarcasm and snide remarks on Aliya to vent her pent up anger. While Aliya tries to make friends with her mom-in-law, she ends up falling madly in love with Siddharth. To make things worse, Siddharth reciprocates the feelings.

Despite conscious efforts to avoid any uncomfortable situation, Aliya and Siddarth acknowledge the mutual feelings. Siddharth breaks the news to Harsh. As if this was not enough, mother dear makes Sidharth swear on her for not marrying Aliya - mamma's boy after all!

Obviously this leads to further mayhem in the family.

However, like all Bollywood films this one too ends on a happy note. And no one other than mommy the great who comes up with the novel and unique idea as an antidote!

Review: Ma kasam, what a movie sir ji! And believe me, you will say the same after you watch the movie.

A fun-filled romantic comedy that grips your throughout, a good storyline (except the Kasam factor), beautiful locations, and good performances, the movie is definitely a one-time watch. It also Chitrangada's comeback movie. She is very good blend of looks and acting..

My only question to the directors is - Why could they not find anyone better than Sharman Joshi for Chitrangada to madly fall in love with? Honestly, the movie would have been more convincing had it been for a more handsome hero luring the heroine than the existing choice.
